Photoshoot Day

How to prepare, and what to expect

How to prepare your home for photoshoot day

A well prepared home can make a big difference to your photos. Here are a few tips to make sure your home is presented well:

Remove clutter

  • Put personal items and photos in draws.
  • Remove any unnecessary items from surfaces including your toothbrush, fridge magnets, remotes etc.
  • Move cords and chargers so that they are out of sight.
  • Remove any floor mats, towels, and washing baskets.

Tidy and organise

  • Make beds, take washing off the line, organise couch cushions etc.
  • Wipe down surfaces.
  • Open curtains, straighten your tap handles, put your toilet lids down.
  • Sweep outdoors, mow lawns, and pull out any obvious weeds.
  • Move cars off the driveway.

Lighting

A well lit home is essential for making a space feel welcoming

  • Make sure all curtains and blinds are open.
  • Turn on all lights (even in daytime!).

Photoshoots will generally occur late morning or early afternoon to capture your home in the best light. Don't worry if its a cloudy day, this is often perfect for ensuring there are no harsh lights and shadows.

What to expect on the day of your photoshoot

Here's how we plan our photoshoots to ensure the day runs smoothly:

  • Weather - We will let you (or your real estate agent) know on the day if the photoshoot is going ahead. We will shoot on sunny and cloudy days, however if it's raining, we will need to reschedule for a better day.
  • Chat to your neighbours if you're getting drone photos- If you are getting drone photos taken (particularly if you're surrounded by residential buildings), please ensure you have let your neighbours know prior to our arrival. The drone will be flown within the boundary of your property, however, it is best to warn neighbours incase they have any issues. We don't want anyone trying to hit the drone out of the sky with a broom!
  • Walk through - When we arrive, feel free to give us a house tour! tell us what you love about the house, you know the best features of your home and this will ensure we capture your favourite features.
  • Duration - Depending on the size of your property, and the photography package you have selected, you can expect for us to be taking photos for 1-3 hours. We like to take our time to ensure everything is captured perfectly. We will let you know once we're finished, and can lock up your home on our way out if you need.
  • Pets - If possible, please arrange for your pets to be either out of the home, or somewhere where they will not be in the photos.
  • Moving things around - Please don't be offended if we move anything out of view. Sometimes moving something out of frame will make for a better photo, and speed up the editing process.
  • What should you do while we're taking photos? - After a busy morning of cleaning and organising, you deserve a well earned break! Feel free to pop out for lunch while we work our magic. As excited as you may be to see your photos being taken, we work best when we're not being observed, or feel rushed so please trust that we will capture all the best parts of your home. If you do wish to hang around, please keep out of view of the camera, windows, or mirrors.

  • Photoshoot times - We usually plan our photoshoots for late morning to early afternoon to capture your property in its best light. If necessary, we can work outside of these times, just let us know beforehand.
